How often do you use reusable breast pads?
This will be different for each mum. Mums that produce a large amount of milk will be needed more often. This is because they will need to soak up more milk to keep you dry. Also, the quality of the breastfeeding pad will make a difference. Ones made from good quality materials won’t need to be changed as often. This is also good for your budget and will make them worth it. But on average, this will be every 4 hours. Especially when you are feeding.
Should you wear them all the time?
Yes, you can wear them all the time. But normally when breast milk starts to leak. This can be rare for some. And a lot for others. It will depend on each mum’s individual circumstances and milk flow. But it’s best to give your nipples some air so only use them when you’re leaking.
Can I wear them at night?
As a new mum, you may be worried about leaking breast milk. And wondering if you can wear them at night. The good news is you can. And this will reduce the amount of washing you will need to do.
Ideally, these should be changed every four hours. Which will probably coincide with your baby’s next feed. If you do plan to wear them while sleeping make sure you calculate how many you will need and whether they are worth it.
Do you have to use them at all?
Wearing breast pads is not compulsory but there are many benefits. Like keeping your clothes dry and helping soothe your nipples. But you may choose not to. Especially if you aren’t breastfeeding or don’t leak much. Some mums don’t leak at all while others can leak at the sound of a baby. Everyone is different so go with what you feel comfortable with.
