Everyone’s circumstances are different. And you might find yourself in a position on the morning of the baby shower without a gift. Whether it’s on purpose or you have forgotten to buy one. And you are wondering if it’s ok to go without a present. Here we give you our thoughts.
It’s ok to attend a baby shower without a gift. A baby shower is a celebration of the birth of an upcoming baby. The parents-to-be would much rather you attend the party without a gift than not come at all. You have been invited as they want to share this special moment with you.
Don’t want to buy a gift
You may not want to buy a baby shower gift, and this could be for many reasons. These could include;
Financial Constraints – Everyone’s financial situation is different. And you may not be able to afford a baby shower hamper. If this is the case reach out to the mum-to-be and mention your situation. Or you could give a non-monetary gift like a handmade voucher for 5 hours of babysitting. Or a note to say you will cook 5 meals for them once the baby is born.
Unsure what to buy – You may not know the recipient very well. Or unsure what to buy. If this is the case we have an article on why you can include in a baby shower hamper. And if you are still trying to decide a baby gift voucher is always appreciated.
Commercialisation – You may not like the commercialism associated with gift-giving. And for babies, there are many opportunities to buy gifts. These include the gender reveal, baby shower, sip and see, and any other babies the parents have in the future. We recommend sending a message to the parents to be about this. Saying you still want to come and are happy to help in other ways. Like helping set up the baby shower or looking after the newborn once they are born.
Tradition – In some cultures you don’t need to bring a gift. This varies depending on the country and culture so make sure you do your research before buying anything.
Forgot to buy a baby shower gift
We have all had that nagging feeling when we wake up on a Sunday morning. And know you have something on but can’t put your finger on what it is. A few minutes later you remembered it is your friend’s baby shower but you haven’t got a gift. Well, there are a few things you can do so you aren’t turning up without a baby shower present. Here are a few ideas;
E-Voucher – Jump online and buy a voucher for your favourite baby store. Print it out and put it in a baby shower card. And turn up as if nothing has happened!
Shared gift – Ask one of your friends who is attending if you can share the gift giving and write your name on the card. And transfer some money so you are contributing.
Make your own – Chemists and Pharmacies are open early. And stock a selection of baby items. You can make your own hamper with some of the items listed in this article.
Look for a baby gift shop – Depending on where you live there may be a baby shop that is open early. Race in and see if they have anything you can get.
